Day 2: 22.10.2007 Summer Palace

SUMMER PALACE: Initially built by Emperor Qianlong, was later burned down by the enemies. It was then rebuilt again by Empress Cixi. She claimed that it was to be used as a base for them to train the navy and strengthen the country. But others claimed that she just wanted to use it for her own leisure. This cost a fortune on the country's reserves and as a result caused the downfall of the country.
They said this stone was god-send..-_- (in what way??)

Qi ling, all monuments are actually feng sui items, each for a different purposes

My sis says my mouth is like a peacock. metal mouth chicken , oh that's mandarin

There's a mirror behind the emperor's seat. On the mirror curves 120(i cant remember correctly) different forms of chinese characters of 'Sou' which means longevity. It was a birthday present from the court officials to Empress Cixi as a blessing.

Intially brought over to the capital from aother province by a rich merchant whose interest involved collecting stones from all over the world. However, he became poor halfway through bcos the cost of transporting the stone was too expensive that he squandered away all his fortune. the stone was then abandoned and was later found again by emperor Qian long. He too saw the beauty of the stone and was fond in it, he too brought it into the palace. however, due to the size of the stone, it could not fit through the door, hence he ordered that the door to be remove and spend a lot of money so as to bring in the stone which the empress(mother of qian long) very unhappy. the locals thus name it the unlucky stone as it caused a lot of unfortunate events

Unlucky stone: the tour guide advised all the people who visited here not to take the photo of this stone but as usual my obstinate sis insisted on taking it as she was like 'oh come on don be too superstitious' ok....let's see what will happen to us later
